FAQs

What are rope barriers called?

Rope barriers go by several names: post and rope stanchions, rope and stanchion sets, velvet rope stanchions, or simply "traditional stanchions." The specific name depends on the venue and the rope material. All refer to the same basic system: fixed-length rope hung between two upright posts.

What is the rope on a stanchion called?

The rope itself is called a stanchion rope or barrier rope, and takes its more specific name from the material. Velvet rope, vinyl rope, braided rayon, twisted poly, and natural hemp are the most common types. Snap hooks at each end secure the rope to the post.

What's the difference between post & rope stanchions and retractable belt stanchions?

Post-and-rope stanchions use a fixed-length rope hung between two posts. Retractable belt stanchions have a self-retracting belt built into the top of each post. Post and rope suits formal venues where aesthetics matter. Retractable belt suits reconfigurable queues where the layout changes often. See retractable belt stanchions for the flexible option.

What rope materials are available?

Lavi offers rope in velvet, vinyl, braided rayon, twisted polyester, natural hemp, and heavy chain. Velvet, rayon, and hemp are suitable for indoor and premium venues. Vinyl and polyester are ideal for high-traffic and outdoor spaces. Heavy chain performs well in industrial settings and extreme temperatures.

Which rope is best for outdoor use?

Twisted polyester rope and heavy chain hold up best outdoors. Both resist weather, UV, and daily wear without fading or fraying. For covered outdoor spaces like hotel entrances or stadium concourses, vinyl-covered rope also works well. Velvet, rayon, and hemp are best kept indoors to preserve their finish.

What mount options are available for traditional post & rope stanchions?

Traditional post and rope stanchions come in portable, magnetic, and removable base configurations. Portable bases add weight to the stanchion for easy repositioning. Magnetic bases hold firmly on steel surfaces and have a low profile. Removable stanchions slide into a floor socket for a semi-permanent, built-in look.

What finishes and materials are available for Traditional Post and Rope stanchions?

Lavi traditional metal stanchions come in polished stainless steel, satin stainless steel, and polished brass. Each finish complements a different design setting. Brass suits classic hospitality and historic properties. Stainless steel suits modern, contemporary spaces.

Are Lavi traditional stanchions ADA compliant?

Yes. Lavi traditional post-and-rope stanchions can be ordered with the double-rope option. This adds a second rope ring at approximately 22" above the floor. A rope connected at this position is at "cane-detectable" height and is ADA compliant.
