Because the housing recesses into the wall, the unit leaves the wall face clean and takes no floor space; when the belt is retracted, almost nothing shows. Pull the belt across an opening — a stockroom doorway, a service corridor, an escalator entry — and seat the standard belt end in the receptacle on the opposing wall or in a portable stanchion. The black belt comes in 10- or 15-foot lengths and rides on a viscous-damping mechanism that slows retraction to a controlled speed, and that mechanism is field-replaceable with a screwdriver.
